USA is a comic book

As a kid and an adult I have read classical and science fiction as well as comic books of a most dystopian sort. It all started with Footfall by Niven. Although the instigator there was natural, the result was very human. Or at least very American. Since then I have been drawn to others telling similar stories of the few profiting at the expense of the many. I always saw these stories as mere fiction and not prophetic. Yet, in the back of my mind I have feared I was wrong to think of them in this small way.

Today I no longer fear I was wrong.

Now, I know.

I recommend a read or re-read of Pinter's 2005 Nobel speech. The rich of the world etc. The first 1/3 is about playwrighting and then he launches into the US - he was British (died last year; my favorite play)
